Three venues in this independent guide sit inside Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway, and the rest sit outside it, most of them out on Manitoba's numbered highways. Drag the ring outward from City Hall to see what is within reach in a straight line and open at this hour, Central Time.

Distances are straight lines from Winnipeg City Hall, not driving distances, and hours are as published in Central Time, so holiday hours should be checked on each venue's own site. Kiinu Gaming Centre (Highway 6) and Swan Lake First Nation Gaming Centre #7 have no published coordinates, so they are not placed.

Zone 1

Inside the Perimeter

Three venues sit inside the Perimeter Highway, and MBLL operates all three. From City Hall in a straight line, Club Regent Casino is 6.8 km away, McPhillips Station 3.2 km and the Shark Club 0.9 km. One Casinos of Winnipeg Club Card earns points at gaming stations and table games in each of them.

The two casinos keep the same clock. They open at 10 AM and close at 3 AM Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday shifts running to 5 AM. Live tables at both run daily from 5:30 PM to 3:00 AM. Each has approximately 1,200 slot machines, including progressives, video poker, keno and electronic bingo.

Downtown, the Shark Club bills itself as Winnipeg's only downtown gaming centre. It runs 10 am to 1 am every day, with blackjack, roulette and double deck from 3:30 pm.

Zone 2

On the edge of the ring

Assiniboia Downs has a Winnipeg address, but its grandstand sits 0.4 km outside the Perimeter on the west side. The Club West Gaming Lounge there holds 140 VLTs in 4,000 square feet and is open daily 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. It is a licensed lounge.

Kiinu Gaming Centre is on Highway 6, 2 km off the Perimeter and about 15 km north of the Downs. Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation runs it, with 40 VLT machines. Hours are 10:30 am to 2:15 am Monday through Saturday and 12:00 pm to 12:00 am on Sunday.

Zone 3

Out on the highways

South Beach Casino & Resort is on Highway 59 near Lake Winnipeg, 63.2 km from City Hall in a straight line. The resort describes its location as 30 minutes north of Winnipeg. Its casino is open 10:00 am to 3:00 am, Monday to Sunday.

Niichi Oasis Gaming Centre sits on Highway 201 east of Letellier, on the Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation main reserve. It is 85.5 km from City Hall. Inside are 30 VLT machines and a 400-seat bingo hall.

Sand Hills Casino is 157.4 km out, 10 minutes south of Carberry off Highway 5 on Swan Lake First Nation land. It has 300 slot machines and no live table games.

Highway 10 north of The Pas leads to Aseneskak Casino, 521.5 km from City Hall and about 40 km from the Saskatchewan border. It has 20,000 sq ft of gaming space and can be reached by road, air and rail. Table games run Tuesday to Saturday, 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM, and are closed Sunday and Monday.

After dark

After dark and at the tables

An hour after midnight belongs to the shift that began the evening before, so a Saturday shift ending at 5 AM ends on Sunday morning. Club Regent and McPhillips Station close last in this guide, at 5 AM after Friday and Saturday evenings and at 3 AM on other nights. South Beach closes at 3:00 am daily. Kiinu and Niichi run to 2:15 am Monday through Saturday and to 12:00 am on Sunday. Aseneskak closes at 1:00 am Monday to Thursday and 2:00 am on Friday and Saturday, while Sand Hills runs to 2:00 AM, or 3:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.

Live tables start earliest at the Shark Club, at 3:30 pm, and deal until 1 am. Club Regent and McPhillips Station run theirs daily from 5:30 PM to 3:00 AM. Aseneskak's tables open 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM, Tuesday to Saturday. South Beach lists single-zero roulette among its table games but publishes no table hours. Sand Hills has no live table games at all.

No venue in this guide lists a poker room. The poker-style games at the Winnipeg casinos, such as Crazy 4 Poker, are house-banked table games, and Aseneskak lists Texas Hold'em among its table games.

From your town

Measuring from your town

From Brandon, the nearest venue in this guide is Sand Hills Casino, 47.0 km away in a straight line. Sand Hills has no live tables, so the nearest live tables sit at McPhillips Station Casino, 200.0 km out. Steinbach is 48.7 km from Club Regent Casino. Selkirk is nearly a tie: South Beach Casino & Resort at 30.0 km, Club Regent at 30.2 km.

Thompson, where the highway ends, has no casino; Aseneskak Casino is 304.1 km away. Every figure here is a straight line from OpenStreetMap coordinates, never a road distance. For other towns, open the Town Ruler page and measure from your own starting point.

Who runs what

Who runs Manitoba's casinos

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries (MBLL) holds the exclusive authority to conduct and manage lottery schemes for the government. It operates the three city venues: Club Regent Casino, McPhillips Station Casino and the Shark Club Gaming Centre. Seven First Nations own South Beach, and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs owns Sand Hills. Aseneskak belongs to a partnership of First Nations. At those three casinos, MBLL conducts and manages the games under agreements with a licensed gaming operator.

The Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba (LGCA) regulates gaming, licenses casinos and licenses gaming industry employees. The legal age is 18: anyone younger must not take part in provincial gaming. The Winnipeg casinos ask for valid photo ID.

Playing online

PlayNow.com, run by MBLL with BCLC as its platform partner, launched in Manitoba in January 2013. No other gambling site is licensed in Manitoba.

Most gambling sites advertised to Manitobans are not regulated in Manitoba. The LGCA cannot make such a site follow Manitoba law, so a player could be left with an unpaid win. An ad for a gambling site does not mean it is legal.

This guide's home page carries paid links, marked Ad, to one third-party online casino site. That site is not licensed in Manitoba. The guide earns a commission from it, and the partner can change.
